Celebrating Differences: Fostering Cultural Diversity and Tolerance
September 21, 2024Teaching Children the Art of Peace
September 21, 2024Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) are essential for creating a fair and inclusive society. Working to ensure that everyone has equal access to education and opportunities means recognising that right now that is not the case and doing what we can to mitigate the effects of that and challenge the root causes. By challenging discrimination and promoting inclusive behaviour, we can start to imagine more just and joyful worlds and model ways to reach it. At CISV, we are committed to educating and inspiring action for a more just and peaceful world, where everyone feels that they belong for all who they are
Support empowering initiatives
- Advocate for Equal Opportunities: Speak out against discrimination and advocate for equal opportunities for all, regardless of race, age, ethnic origin, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, gender identity, or abilities. Support policies and initiatives that promote equity and inclusion in education and beyond.
- Challenge Discrimination and Promote Inclusion: Actively challenge discriminatory behaviour and promote inclusive practices in your community. Encourage open dialogue about diversity and inclusion and educate others about the importance of respecting differences.
- Support DEIB Initiatives: Get involved with programs and organizations that focus on DEIB. Volunteer your time, donate, or participate in events that promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Your support can help create a more inclusive environment for everyone.
Dedication to fostering DEIB through our programmes and activities
Since 1951, we have been offering a range of local activities, international camps, and community-based projects that provide opportunities for young people and adults from over 60 countries to meet and develop friendships with people from different backgrounds and cultures. Our programmes are designed to inspire participants to become active global citizens who value diversity and inclusion.
- Clear Leadership: Our Governing board is taking decisive actions to better live Inclusion as one of our core values. The DEIB committee is actively working on the design of a strategy that will ensure Inclusion is embedded in all our educational programs and organizational structure. This plan is supported by the work of our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee In our programmes and trainings this means that we want to encourage our participants and our volunteers to understand where they are in privileged positions so they can use that privilege to contribute to making a more just and peaceful world.
- A Safe Environment: We strive to make CISV a safe environment for all volunteers, staff, and participants, especially those with marginalized identities. We continue to implement measures to ensure that anyone who experiences discrimination can disclose it safely and confidentially, with the confidence that we will take appropriate action.
- Inclusive Programs and Activities: We continuously assess and improve our trainings and educational content to ensure they are inclusive and uphold CISV’s values. Our programmes are designed to lift up the voices of those traditionally oppressed, excluded, or disadvantaged in society and provide them with the resources and tools they need to thrive.
Change starts with each individual. Promoting DEIB is not just a concept but a call to action. By advocating for equal opportunities, challenging discrimination, and supporting DEIB initiatives, we can all contribute to a more inclusive and just society. Everyone involved in CISV is encouraged to play their part in promoting DEIB and creating a just society. Join the committee which is currently recruiting new members here.
By living our values and treating each other with fairness, inclusivity, and respect, we can make a difference in our communities and the world.
